Frequently asked questions
Answers to the questions we are asked most often. Can’t find yours? Write to maeliartiste@pm.me: Maeli answers personally.
The artworks
Are the paintings originals?
Yes. Every original is painted by hand by Maeli, most often in watercolour on paper (the technique is given on each page), then dated and signed.
Each one is unique: once sold, it is no longer available.
What is the difference between an original and a fine art print?
The original is the painting itself: there is only one.
A fine art print is a signed, museum-quality reproduction on thick matte paper (189 g/m²), available in several sizes. It lets you own a work whose original has been sold, or at a gentler price.
Are the paintings sold framed?
You choose on the artwork’s page: framed and ready to hang (the available frames are listed there), or unframed, rolled and protected in a tube. The price and shipping adjust to your choice.
How do I look after a watercolour?
Watercolour mostly fears direct light and damp:
- hang it out of direct sunlight and away from heat sources;
- avoid damp rooms, such as the bathroom;
- if unframed, handle it by the edges with dry hands, and store it flat.
Framed under glass, it will last for years.
A work has been sold: can I get a similar one?
On a sold work’s page, the “Hear about similar works” button lets you write to Maeli. Some works are also available as fine art prints. And for a piece that is yours alone, think of custom commissions.
How can I be invited to exhibition openings?
Write to maeliartiste@pm.me to hear about upcoming exhibitions, or follow Maeli on Instagram, where she announces them.
Ordering and payment
How can I pay?
Payment is made online, on a secure Stripe page: card, Apple Pay, Google Pay, or Klarna to pay in instalments. The total, shipping included, is shown before you pay.
Is payment secure?
Yes. Payment is handled by Stripe, one of the leading online payment services. Your card details never pass through the website or the studio.
Will I receive a confirmation?
Yes: a confirmation email with your receipt is sent as soon as you pay. A second email gives you the tracking number when the parcel ships.
Can I give a work as a gift?
Of course. Enter the recipient’s address at checkout: the parcel is delivered straight to them. To add a short note, write to maeliartiste@pm.me right after your order.
Is a work I saw at an exhibition for sale?
Often, yes. If it is not in the Shop, write to maeliartiste@pm.me with its title: Maeli will tell you whether it is available and at what price.
Shipping and customs
How are the works shipped?
Originals leave the studio by Colissimo (French tracked post), with signature on delivery: flat and carefully protected when framed, rolled in a tube when unframed.
Fine art prints are shipped directly by our printer, with a tracking number.
How much is shipping?
The price depends on the parcel and the delivery country. Choose your country in the basket: the exact amount is shown before you pay, with no surprises.
How long does delivery take?
The delivery time for your country is shown on the artwork’s page and in the basket. In mainland France, allow 3 to 5 working days after shipping.
How do I track my order?
As soon as it ships, you receive an email with the tracking number and a link to follow the parcel.
Will I pay customs fees?
Within the European Union, no (except in the Canary Islands).
For delivery outside the European Union, to the French overseas territories or the Canary Islands, the parcel travels with a customs declaration: import duties and taxes (local VAT, dock dues…) may be charged on delivery. They are paid by the recipient and depend on your country. The basket reminds you before you pay.
Do you ship to my country?
The countries we ship to are listed in the basket. For legal reasons or carrier limitations, we do not ship to Russia, Belarus, Crimea and the Luhansk and Donetsk regions, Iran, Syria, Cuba, North Korea or Ecuador.
Your country is not listed? Write to maeliartiste@pm.me: we will look for a solution.
Returns
My parcel arrived damaged: what should I do?
Write to maeliartiste@pm.me within a few days of delivery, with photos of the parcel and the work, and keep the packaging. We will find a solution together.
Can I return a work?
Yes: you have 14 days after delivery to change your mind. Let us know at maeliartiste@pm.me, then send the work back in its original packaging; you are refunded as soon as it is back at the studio. Return shipping is at your expense.
Custom commissions, painted from your photos, cannot be returned.
Custom commissions
How do I commission a portrait?
Fill in the form on the Custom commissions page: you can attach your photos.
- You share your photos, the occasion, what you want to pass on.
- Together you agree on the size and composition.
- Maeli paints the portrait by hand, in watercolour, on paper.
- It is delivered framed or rolled, ready to give.
How much does a portrait cost, and how long does it take?
Each portrait is unique: the price and timing depend on the size and the number of people. Maeli tells you both before starting, when you agree on the project together.
For a specific date (birth, wedding, birthday), mention it in your first message.
Which photos should I send?
Sharp photos, ideally taken in daylight, where the face and the eyes are clearly visible. Several photos help capture an expression: feel free to send a few.
